MITCHELL, S.D. – Jordan Werner and Dane Hagen’s college soccer careers are over, but new opportunities have already come up for the Dakota Wesleyan University seniors.
Hagen and Werner have both been accepted to participate in the InfoSport Pro Soccer Combine. The combine, which brings in approximately 250 aspiring professional soccer players from around the world, runs Jan. 3-5, 2012, in Lakewood Ranch, Fla.
Major League Soccer, United Soccer League, North American Soccer League and Major Indoor Soccer League coaches, scouts and agents will be in attendance at the combine, which has been put on for the past 11 years. The coaching staff includes five MLS assistant coaches, two USL head coaches and one assistant, one former MLS assistant coach and Hunter Gilstrap, a professional goalie for the Pittsburgh Riverhounds of the USL.
This fall, Werner and Hagen wrapped up four-year careers with the Tigers. The duo helped DWU to a 9-9-1 record and its second straight appearance in the Great Plains Athletic Conference semifinal game. Werner, a four-year starter in goal, earned All-GPAC Second Team honors and recorded eight shutouts. He set a school record with 133 saves, and gave up just 22 goals for a .858 save percentage. He led the GPAC in saves and saves per game (7.12) and finished second in the league in save percentage.
Hagen was named All-GPAC Honorable Mention in his senior season. He scored four goals and one assist after making the transition from forward to backfield in 2011. He had 17 shots, including 12 on goal.
After the combine, scouting reports on each participant are made available to every professional soccer team around the world, giving players like Werner and Hagen the opportunity to further their athletic careers.
